Flora of India

£ 1800.00

Flora of India was painted during my artist residency at Artcore. Following the theme of celebrating India I became interested in native flowers of India. During British rule plant hunters most importantly, Sir Joseph Hooker, Director of Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew brought back exotic flowers to Britain. This influenced British gardens, he published a book ‘Flora of British India’ in 1872, the first of seven volumes. This inspired my ‘Flora of India’ painting which incorporates some of the most important & striking flowers native to India.
